An exceptional driving experience along a route steeped in tradition, through spectacular scenery of deep fjords and lush valleys -  wild, wonderful and vibrant. The historic Trollstigen road, with its 11 hairpin bends, was opened in 1936, and in 2005 the Geirangerfjord was included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The Trollstigen plateau appears in new and contemporary design, with a consistent architectural profile for all buildings, trails and viewing platforms. Of all the spectacular motoring routes in the world, we dare to claim that Geiranger-Trollstigen is in the elite division. Tourist enterprises in this region have a long tradition of arranging adventurous and memorable encounters with this untamed nature.

National Tourist Route Geiranger-Trollstigen runs from Langevatn on the Strynefjell plateau to Sogge bridge in Romsdalen valley, and includes a ferry across the Nordalsfjord from Eidsdal to Linge. The route has a total length of 106 kilometres.

The Trollstigen road and the stretch from Geiranger to Langvatn are closed in the winter season.

Travel info Geiranger - Trollstigen

Ferries must be used on parts of the route. Clicking on the ferry routes indicated will bring you to an information site for the chosen route.

Ferries operate the route Eidsdal - Linge. More information on the ferry can be obtained by clicking on the links in the menu on the left. 

Gudbrandsjuvet Kafé will normally remain open in the period from 1 June to 1 September. Trollstigen Kafé will normally remain open in the period from Mai to 15 September.

Parts of National Tourist Route Geiranger-Trollstigen are closed during the winter season (see the "Map" menu and red flags). The stretch Langevatnet - Geiranger is normally closed in November and reopens in May. The Trollstigen mountain road is normally closed in October and reopens in May.

Restrictions on buses: On the route in Trollstigen the maximum permitted length for buses and coaches is 13.1 metres.

Ørnesvingen

Ørnesvingen.

 Ørnesvingen has for centuries been widely used by travellers as a place to stop and enjoy the view. This viewing platform is located at the uppermost hairpin bend of the Ørnevegen road, and offers a breathtaking view. From here, you can see towards Geiranger, over the Geirangerfjord with its precipitous hillsides, the cascading waterfall The Seven Sisters and the mountain hamlet of Knivsflå.
